Heavy storms and dark woods!

7 november 2017 - Linkwater, Nieuw-Zeeland

So we are at Smiths Farm. We got a bag with food for the animals that he had on the farm and he gave us a little map where he had drawn a path that would lead to Glowworm. Nice! Now we could check them out for free!! Simone didn't really wanted to at the first place. We really had a long day off driving today. But I wanted to go anyway. Just a 15 minute break and then we would go. That was fine by me. It was almost dark now.

During the walking we said that it is strange that you just trust a random guy telling you to go into the woods in the dark. You just don't know where you are or where you going. . at all. Someone could just wait for you to pass by.
But that wasn't the scary part, being in that bush it was. It was not even dark but there it already was. You couldn't see anything without a light, so densely forested it was. Spooky actually and I was happy that Simone was there aswell. After 5 minutes walking threw the woods we saw them. Really awesome!! Definitely the first time you see them because you don't really know what you can expect. But pretty amazing to see them in the dark. And they are all hanging out around the same spot having there light shining out of their bum. The pictures don't show them that well, there are heaps more than you see on the pictures.

Then she just heared something. . and saw something big pass. . That maked it way better. And to be honest.. I was glad when we walked on the open field again. When it's that dark. . at a place you don't know with so many trees that you can't see the light of the moon and only can walk on the path. Just imagine, when a bad person knows that people come there during the evening / night that are not familiar with the place. . Rather not think about that for to long.

But we got back all in one piece, thank God.

I was glad that we slept inside, we had the plan to sleep outside in the tent at first, because it was SSOOOO windy and it rained SSOOOO hard. . I bet that that would have destroyed our tent. And the funny part of it. . Simone didn't even heared it. . unbelieveble. But she found it out anyway because she had to go to the toilet at 5 in the morning. And she came back with wet feet. Not because she peed on them but because the area got flooded. So yeah.. pretty happy that we didn't sleep outside in the tent. God knows where we would have stranded.

At 8 all the water was already soaked into the ground. Just like nothing had happend during the night.

In the morning we feed the sheeps and goat and went on the road to do a part of the QUEEN CHARLOTTE TRACK. It's a 71km track all the way but we would just do one part of it offcourse. In contrast to yesterday today was beautifull again!
We would just do a few hours. We ended at a really beautifull spot!! Just in the middel of nowhere, it had a little track that leaded you to the Lodge with art, hanging shoes, bees (BEEhave, BEEhappy), eels, birds and chicks. It was already nice to walk towarts the Lodge. It looked like Hawai when we got there! Although I haven't been there yet (should write that one on my bucketlist) I have the idea that it looks like the spot we were now. We had a white wine and a fish platter. . Such a hard life we have. . .

After that great stop we were heading back to our car. We had to drive a little bit more.

Oohw before I forget. . On our way there we crossed an insect and Simone was wondering if he would bite. . and I was like: Nah! Well Simone found out different. Guess I was wrong there.
