Must see: Paihia

2 december 2017 - Paihia, Nieuw-Zeeland

Nice to sleep in a clean and nice apartment. We went into town, had some Zombrero (awesome food, that  I knew from Australia and my time in Townsville). We went early to bed because we all were a bit tired. The next day I had to drive a around four hours so a night of sleep would do me good.

I was heading towards Paihia and if I had time I should go visit a pub which I should pass anyway. It was a pub were everyone could leave a message on something like money, hats, bra’s etc. That was my first stop.

In Pihia I looked for a hostel with a camping ground so I could use the kitchen facilities. I would stay for three nights, time to plan some stuff!

I wanted do a sailing cruise and a wine tasting. I booked the sailing but I couldn’t book the wine tasting yet. I had to wait for the next day to organise that. The only problem was that I had to get up at 9am the next day for sailing. And today it was Saturday. . time to go out! I bought some beers and cooked my dinner. Meanwhile I met some people that came there every year. They asked me how good I was in playing pool. . well I had my good and my bad days. . When I had a good day I was allowed to join them.

The first game I almost won, what my opponent surprised!  Nice! To bad that I lost the game after that to, but that one was close to! Time for some dancing! Even on a Saturday night they close at 1am! Way to early when you ask me.  But that was a good thing for sailing the next day.

As almost every day it was really nice weather! I got some beers with me so the day couldn’t go bad. It was a really nice trip and we had a lunch at one of the beaches. He had some kayaks with him that had a plastic bottom and the water was so clear that you could see everything under the water. When we were heading back we did some sailing. I was the only one that had brought some beers and as nice as I am. . I shared them.  Beautiful day!

Our tour guide had said that you could go on a ferry in the evening to the next Island, they had good food in a pub were they should have a life band that evening, you could watch the awesome sunset from the beach and go with the ferry back when it was dark, it should be full moon.

Before I went on the ferry I decided to relax at the port first with some seafood and an espresso martini! I was feeling great! Tuff life! I took the ferry at 7:30 pm and when I got to the pub they told me that the life music was already over. The food didn’t look that great either so I was looking for another place to eat before watching the sunset that should be around 8:30pm. At 8:10 I was sitting on the beach and wanted to order a wine when the girl next to me said that I just missed the sunset. There were a few clouds so it was a bit earlier than normal and not that pretty. Hmmmm. . missed it. She recommended an Italian restaurant and when I got there they just closed. . not my lucky day and I decided to head back. It was getting dark but no fool moon. I met a few people on the ferry and one of them had his birthday, he turned 38. I asked if I could join them by their next drink and that was fine. One of the guys really wanted a bourbon first so we went to their apartment to drink one. When we got in an alarm was going off. . it took them a while to find out that it was their wasmachine that was done. . *zucht. . men. .

I sometimes drink whiskey cola but never only the spirit. Good that I only had one glass of wine before. One of the guys was checking if I was doing alright because I’m not use to drink spirits, that was the father figure. Then we went to get some pizza and after that I went to the next bar.

I met some locals and one of them said that he was going fishing the next day and if I wanted to join him. That sounds like a good plan! But that would be early morning.. 7 getting up. That was fine by me! It was already late so I went back to my tent.
