Guayaquil

30 oktober 2021 - Guayaquil, Ecuador

Already the last place that Im visiting in Ecuador. Time flies! Its already normal to walk 2-3km to the hostel with all my stuff. In Holland I would have had someone picking me up when it would have been over 1km! But here.. its totally fine.

Its a big town and I was in a hostel just next to the boulevard. It was 2,5km long so it was nice to walk from one end to the other, day or night.

There also was a little island, Santay. Nice to go cycling, but apparently the island was closed?!

On one of those days I walked around the boulevard, had a beer, did 444 stairs up to the Church Santa Ana (which I could do in once!!!! That was really nice for a change, Ican notice that Im back at sea level) had 2 beers on the way down, walked to a fontain, but it would take 2more hours for the water/light show to start, so walked a bit more, had food and another beer, walked back, had a powernap on a bench, watched the watershow, walked back to the hostel and ordered a pizza on the way back just because I needed a toilet. Woke up at 4am with stomach pain. Luckly didnt had to go to the toilet as oft as last time. But the pain in my belly now was worse, so couldnt sleep anymore, went to get breakfast, took half of it back with me to the room and went back to bed. Got Ibuprofen from one of my room mates (I had paracetamol myself bit didnt take them yet). Took one Ibuprofen at 11 because I still couldnt sleep. Then the pain was mostly over and I had 2hours of sleep! I ate the rest of my breakfast. Had a little walk to get some water and fresh air. Then went back to bed and went reading for te rest of the day (a German book). I found out that the book was missing some pages, it went from page 272 to 289, but if you looked at the book it didnt look like pages got out. Then I was at page number 320 and the next was 305, strange again and I finished the book at page 340. NOT SATISFYING! I really missed some parts of the story. Then I ate the pizza that I got the other day. Which was nice because I didnt feel like going out of the hostel again. Another roommate brought me an apple and the next day I was fine again.

I also went to an art museum, had a few walks around town. They have little paintings all over the foothpath which was really nice. All kind of art that you could find around town. During the evenings there where shows on the boulevard, comedians, but I didnt really understand a lot of it but it should have been funny because everybody was laughing the whole time.

I tried Helados con Queso (icecream with cheese), I could not imagine they would really put cheese on icecream, probably is some kind of creamcheese but no.. it was really cheese! It was terrible! I troed to threw the cheese away and just eat the icecream itself.

They also have "ski-lift" from the town, over the river to another side of town. Looked really funny. They pass a lot of big buildboards where nice paintings are on.

Time to go to the airport where I started another book (English this time). Which hopefully is a bit better then the last one!

Ecuador is a really nice and beautifull country! There is a lot to see and do for anykind of traveler and age. I see young people go up mountains but also seniors! Wauw, respect!!!

In my eyes safe and easy to travel, at least during the day. I would not have been comfortable during the night I think. Also be on the street by myself in the dark I would not recommend. Some people wrote me that Ecuador decleared the state of emergency (verklaren van noodtoestand) because of all the (drugs)crime. I thought that it was normal that there where so many militairy / police on the streets, at the stations and at shops. Apperently thats not normal. When I walked up the 444 stairs, after every 100stairs there were standing police officers. You should really just walk those stairs and not the other ones going up because that would have been dangerous they told me severall time when I wanted to go up another way. Neverthless I have not felt unsafe anywhere around Ecuador

It's nice to see another culture, how they travel around motorbikes (even when they are just 12years old, with 1-2-3or 4people on it), all the cars that just honk all the time, when they see people they know, when they see people that walkung on the street, when they see someone strange, when they just want to let you know they are there, when the light turns green, when they overtake, etc etc. The latin music all the time, the wash that they hang out on the roof, dinner for lunch and breastfeeding when they walk, sitting at the edge of the foothpath, in the bus, at the station, just not descreet at all. But yeah, every country has there own things I suppose.

I can imagine that they are much happier here then they would have been in Europe. Less rules, less focused on time but still really organized in their own way!

Ha Lianne, je hebt weer kunnen proeven van een heel andere sfeer en omgeving. Weer van alles genoten en gezien. Mooi hoor zoals je het allemaal beschrijft. Geniet verder van alles wat je nog tegenkomt. Knuffel
