Kayaking & Hiking: WOEP WOEP!!

9 november 2017 - Abel Tasman National Park, Nieuw-Zeeland

Yeah our first night in our tent!! Nice. That was in the place called MARAHAU. Just before our three day kayaking and hiking tour in Abel Tasman. The tent was not that difficult to set up but it looked liked one of the sticks was to long.  Because it didn't fit in the whole where it should go without having the idea that you would rip the tent. . So we just did plan B.

Simone had a self-inflatable mattress and I just had a foam one. Simone's one is a bit softer but mine is warmer. . With a few pair of clothes on Simone had it pretty pretty cold, just say really cold!!, that night and I was good with just my (boyfriends)shirt and thermopants. Couldn't complain.

We were looking forward to this trip. . it's was gonna be a active one.
First day on a boat, doing some walking.
Day two, kayaking and walking.
Day three, just kayaking.

I can write a book of that trip but just will tell a few thing and the pictures will tell the rest.
we could let most of our stuff in the car. Simone's bag was 14 kilo with the botlle of wine (priorities first) and the cooking gear and mine was with the tent and cans of food, 17 kilo.
The first walk was just a return walk so we left our bags at the beginning of the track and we got to a really nice beach. I found a Shiva shell and there Simone's attention was drawn. . Oohw noo. . That's one of her addiction. So now at every beach, we were looking for them. Well you have way worse things to have an addiction at. This one is funny as well. And we learned that were you find one, there's a big chance that you will find another one near by.

So now time to walk with our bags. You have to get use to the weight you're carrying. Definitely when you need to walk up a steep hill! But like almost everything, you get use to that. After you already lost liters of sweat.
Waiting for a few hours for low tide and we could cross and set up our tent. Making dinner, have a sip of the wine, eating Camembert and Brie and play cards in the tent.

We had to walk one and a half hours (they told us) so we started at 8:00 to be on our "appointment" on time at 09:45. We had a few quick stops, to drink or put on sunscreen and at 9:30 we saw a sign that it was still an hour walk. . How was that even possible. . we both didn't knew. I wanted to call them but offcourse you don't have reception, which was great actually because it was so relaxing not to have to look at your phone!
We got their at 10:05 so we did a pretty good job. Our tourguide was still waiting with the kayaks. . lucky us. He thought that I had a really cool surname. . van Doom. Good that's wrong but who cares.. My name was van Doom that day.

Funny fact: Abel Tasman was a Dutchman. . So they all pronounce it wrong here. .

after our kayak trip we had to pull our kayak onto the beach and put it away for the night. . It went up and it was not a light kayak. A few guys where watching . . but helping. . no way. Great emancipation of woman. Set up the tent after and chop some wood. That was a bit harder then I thought. . I was looking forward to making a fire but before I got the chance. . other people did that already for me. . and it was not even getting dark then!
We still had half of the Camembert and Brie. . but a bird stole that out of our tent. And we were just sitting next to it. . Bad bird! Now we just had to drink the wine. . We had some dinner and I burned my mouth on it. .

In the morning I made some noodles. . and when I was letting the water out. . I thought well. . just feed the birds again and dropped all the noodles. . Happens the best of us. Simone did a better job.

Our last day with the kayak. Now we just were on our own on the open sea. I was paying way more attention then with the waves then yesterday. But it was really nice!
It was an awesome trip! Although Simone had it pretty cold during the nights. We should really buy a blanket or something because her mattress is sucking up the cold of the earth.

On this trip we really got to talk and had some pretty good and serious conversations. You don't really have a lot of time for that when you just see each other now and then and then you just enjoying that moment and you don't get really the time to have those conversations.
I had to think about my travelling through Australia aswell. Awesome time that was! I've done so many things in those first two and a half months when I was backpacking. So many good memories and it just makes me laugh to think about those times back then. I've met a lot off people on those travels but just with two of them I still have contact so now and then.
