Eating neighbours.

16 november 2017 - Te Anau, Nieuw-Zeeland

We slept that night next to Te Anau (big lake). It was quite windy so we choose a spot not at the shore but close to the parking area because otherwise Simone wouldn't survive the night. We had an appointment that night to visit the glowworm cave at The Anau. But 4 km for our stop our navigation went out. . Well it was close to the water so drive towards that. Now we were almost running late. I asked at a bar where the streat was. . well we were on the right one so thats good. I didn't ask him were about our shop was because he looked really busy. We should found out ourselves I think. . Well were it had to be there was just a container with the name of the company on it. I just had read that you had to confirm your booking at least 24h before. Hmm and I hadn't done that. . We were really getting late. . I asked someone else and she told me were to go. . When we got there we were like. . well they could have put a sign outside or something. And then we saw a few signs that we just totally missed a few minutes ago when we drove past. Bloody tourists.

We got our ticket and got onto the boat. Well I had the tickets so I was on the boat. . I didn't gave Simone her ticket so she was not allowed to go in. I just stood there and waved. See Ya! I thought that was funny. . but walked back anyway to give her her ticket. She had the car keys so I had to give the ticket. It would have been quite a walk back to our camping spot (25 min drive).

The boat trip took about 20 minutes and you could go on the deck. It was so windy that you could lean against the wind. . Your hair was really beautiful after that. Mine definitely looked better after then before!

We got our tour guide and walked into the caves. It was pretty amazing to see. I didn't know that glowworms were larva and that they would turn into flies. And that they would eat their neighbor worm when he would come to close! Cannibals they are! When they turn into a fly they don't eat anymore. . because they don't have a mouth. . Interesting! The reason that they light up is to attract little insects, they would catch them with the silk lines they made (like a spider), poisoning the insect so it dies and then eat it. But they are just so NICE to look at! Just forget the poisoning and cannibalism part and you will be fine!

After a few hundred meters into the cave we stepped into a little boat to do a romantic cruise. . Not with stars but with asses that are lighting up. Sounds pretty romantic don't you think? It looked liked that we drove to a few different areas that were "glowing". You only could see the glowworms so you wouldn't know better. But we passed the same glowworms twice. He just turned the boat got it in a different angle and went towards it so that it looked like if you were seeing new once. But I noticed. . clever people tricking stupid tourists. .

Just like the guy that sold us the Skydive, you have to decide now if you want to go tomorrow because they will close in 10 minutes (it was 4:50pm). I didn't really believe him, I just don't believe people that quick anyway. Definitely when I just met them. It's almost a natural thing for people to lie to get what they want. So I just don't believe stuff that people say, I need time or see it for myself. That's a good AND a bad character trait of me. So I was curious and we went to another travel agent I asked till what time you could book it. It was 6:30pm and he ring them up. . good now I was sure that he was lying. What did I say about tricking stupid tourists? The funny thing is. . while I'm writing this. . (im at a travel center) I booked to see a geyser. The guy told me yesterday when it goes off. . it will go for 45 minutes and it will go a few times a day. Now I hear someone say: it goes for 20minutes and you should go early because it will go around 10:15am. . I'm really bad.. almost paranoia. But how similar is real life and the touristic life. .

Anyway. . back to my story. Finished the "romantic" boat trip and going on another both to go back to shore. I went on the deck to watch some stars. I love watching them, I'm a romantic type. And at our camp I watched till I saw two shooting stars. Really nice! Then going into the tent. Play cards, had a sip of wine, cheese and crackers. . I lost twice. . surprise surprise so I needed another sip. .
